Griffin is 5 months!

Is it just me or has Sept. and Oct. just flown by?!? I always feel like the fall is gone before I even knew it was here. Maybe it's all the school events, football games, birthday parties, meetings and such that keep our days full! Here's an update on the littlest Hare...

5 month measurements:
Weight: 15.7 pounds
Length: 25 1/2 inches

Milestones:

  • We are down to 5 feedings a day. He eats 5 oz at or around 7 am, 10:30 am, 2 pm, 5:30 pm and has 7 oz at 9 pm.
  • He's back to sleeping through the night again he goes to bed between 7-8 pm and we wake him at 9 for a feed then sleeps until 6:30 am (although sometimes he gets up at 5 am but can usually put himself back to sleep.
  • He has started babbling and squealing. It's amazing how similar his happy squeals sound like Brooklyn's when she was his age.
  • Still only rolling from tummy to back. He can roll his bottom half from back to tummy but he can't  seem to get his shoulders all the way over - and it makes him cranky.
  • Attended his first (and most likely his only) Baylor football game. We took him to the TCU game and he was amazing (and slept through the best part lol!)
  • He is such an observer. I really do think he's a little old man trapped in a baby body while he's looking around and taking in the world he always looks so concerned with his little eyebrows.
  • When he smiles it's major. Griffin doesn't halfway smile- he give you the biggest toothless slobbery grin his little face can possibly make.

He loves...
  • chewing on everything
  • his lovey
  • going for walks
  • those o-ball toys
  • Brooklyn making silly faces and watching her run around

He hates....
  • pacifiers
  • Brooklyn giving him "extra big" hugs
  • any type of nose sucker
  • playing on his mat while we eat dinner - he would rather be at the table with us (soon, Buddy!)

Happy 4 Months Griffin!

Oh my how I love this stage! The newborn stage is gone and we are in full baby mode! Griffin' is a smiley, giggly baby and it makes my heart explode. Brooklyn loves helping Griffin eat, play and nap. Sometimes it's helpful and sometimes...not so much. Brooklyn's class at school also loves Griffin. Every time I bring him in to pick up B, a sea of little hands comes at us - turns out toddlers love babies and Griff doesn't seem to mind the attention.

 (unofficial) 4 month measurements:
Weight: 15 pounds
Length: 25 inches
Noggin: huge.

Milestones:
  • Remember that one time I told you that Griffin is sleeping through the night? Well...he stopped. For the past 2 weeks he's gotten up around 2-3am every. friggin'. night. Arghhhhh!
  • He is enjoying sitting up (supported) more
  • starting to make babbling sounds
  • he can roll on to his side - but that's as far as he goes
  • he spins on his mat. He'll be on his back and use his feet to scoot himself around his playmat.
  • he's grabbing things and shoving them in his mouth- everything within reach goes in

Happy 3 Months Griffin!

Little man is filling out!

Here are the (unofficial) 3 month measurements:
Weight: 12 1/2 ish pounds
Length: 24 inches

Milestones:
  • He's settled into a schedule (7,10,1,4,7,10) which has been helpful for me because now I can have a rough estimate of a schedule for me in order to get both kids and myself ready for work/school/sitter each day.
  • Griffin is sleeping through the night y'all!! For the last 3 weeks (minus 3 nights of growth spurt waking) he's been going down after his 10 pm feed and sleeping until 6-7 am!
  • He is grinning and giggling more and more- he's such a happy baby....
  • ....unless you miss his sleepy/nap window then there is screaming and tears (by both Griff and me) to get him to fall asleep.
  • getting better at reaching and grabbing.
  • still hates tummy time with a passion- like ...hates. it.

Griffin is 1 month

I have no clue where this first month has gone!

It has been wild! Little man got a fever when he was 3 weeks which resulted in a late night trip to the ER (which required a spinal, IV, x-ray, and other poking and prodding). His white blood cell count was up so they admitted him while they ran spinal and blood cultures to rule out the big bad stuff (meningitis, infection etc). The cultures came back clear but he took several days to kick the fever so we had a fun stay in the hospital for 4 days. It was scary for this mommy and hard to juggle being at the hospital, breastfeeding, getting things done at home and making sure Brooklyn had plenty of love and attention too. The staff in the children’s wing at the hospital were beyond incredible!

He is probably the only baby who was admitted to the hospital and gained weight lol her are his stats as of yesterdays follow up appt.

Weight: 9lbs 7 oz!! (up almost 2 lbs from birth weight!)
Length: 20 3/4 inches

He’s eating great- breastfeeding isn’t fun- but it’s going better than it did with Brooklyn. So far he’s been a pretty good sleeper but we are still working on him consistently getting a good 5 or so hour stretch at night maybe in the next few weeks we’ll exceed the “4 hour sleep at night” mark. I’d be so grateful if he could do that before I go back to work! He just outgrew his newborn footie pj's - a few of the NB onesies still fit though. He's moved on to 3 month clothes but they are still a little big.

He’s a strong little bugger and can hold his head up for quite a while and can roll on his side during activity mat time! He’s happy unless he’s getting his diaper changed – then he turns into a tornado siren and can be heard I’m sure for blocks. He’s also not a huge fan of bath time yet but I’m hoping he’ll come around when we start getting more regular with bath time.

Brooklyn likes to greet him each morning and gives him kisses and always wants to know where he is. She also is learning to be gentle with brother (her patting is sometimes a little harsh). He's our sweet little old man and we are loving watching him grow and change each day!

Happy Birthday Griffin!

He is here! And like I did with Brooklyn - here is his birth story....

Baby Boy Hare's due date was technically May 22nd. Daniel's parents had come down to visit and attend a wedding about an hour or so from our house the weekend of the 16th and we'd joked that it'd be convenient if he made his appearance while they were here to save them a trip.

We went to dinner at BJ's on Friday evening (the 16th) and got home around 8pm. We were letting Brooklyn stay up a little late so she could spend some time with BeBe and Grandad. We were all in the living room watching Wizard of Oz (fast forwarding through the parts with the witch of course) when I heard/ felt a pop around 8:30. I knew it was my water so I quickly got up and made a dash for the restroom. I was glad I did cause I would have ruined our new couch ha ha! I called my OB and came back into the living room to let everyone know there would be a baby born in no less than 24 hours.  At my appointment on Tuesday the Dr. said I was at 3cm and about 75% effaced (which with B took 6 hours of labor and pitocin to get to) and I'd been having BH contractions but they weren't painful so I figured he'd be on time or a smidge early but was a little surprised.

I showered and finished packing the hospital bag and Bebe and Grandad put B to bed while we left for the hospital. We arrive at the hospital and get checked in around 9:30-10ish. They hooked up pitocin around 11pm and watched.

I'd decided around 1:30am that the contractions were getting more painful and that I should order the epi before it was too late. Boy am I glad I did. The epidural was given and set up between 2-2:30 and by 3:20 am I felt like it was time so I had Daniel get the nurse and sure enough we were ready to go. The doc came in and 3 contractions later Griffin Patrick was here!

Big day!

December 20th was a big day for our little family!

Brooklyn had her last day of Fall semester at WMS and they had their holiday party and an early release day.

They did a special circle time with their adorable matching shirts and reindeer hats and sang Jingle Bells for all of the parents then had juice boxes and decorated sugar cookies.

Brooklyn ate her entire table's bowl of mini m&m's. I'm shocked that she didn't vomit. I tried to regulate her... but she's sneaky. I'm pretty sure she even took a few off of other kids' cookies. Oops.

After the icing buffet cookie decorating they all (surprisingly) sat back in a circle for the book gift exchange and each took turns going to the tree and picking a gift to unwrap and thanking whichever classmate gave the gift. It was really sweet to see them all so excited about their books and be so kind and thankful!

Then we went home for lunch and a nap and took Brooklyn to my parents so that Daniel and I could go to our anatomy sonogram for baby #2!

We got to see arms legs, fingers, toes, kidneys, lungs and a heart - it's so much easier to identify major body parts now that we've had a few of these appointments under our belts. I still have no clue how sonographers work all that magic and measuring but I'm sure thankful they know what they are doing. L&D aside, this Dr. visit is always my most anxious one - making sure everything is there and looking good and growing is no small task.

The fun part about this appointment was that we got to find out gender if we wanted to - which we totally did! I know some people like to wait and be "surprised" but to me you're surprised either way -at 18 weeks or when it pops out on its birthday. I prefer to be surprised at 18 weeks when I still have 22 weeks to prep for names, bedding, and shop lol!

Here's the video we took of how we told Brooklyn and then we used the video to send to our families to let them know the gender too! Brooklyn could care less what we were having - she was over the MOON about those balloons!

Fall recap

So here's what we've been up to this fall

Visiting family.

Watching college football (shocker I know. That's so unlike us.)

Celebrating new babies. Daniel's sister Hayley and her hubby Nick are expecting their first little one. We have been spoiling her rotten before she even arrives!

Playing hard, going to the fair, trick or treating and freaking out at Santa.

Watching Daniel run his first half marathon and full marathon! I could not be more proud of his commitment, his drive and his heart while watching him train for this thing! He was supposed to run the Dallas Marathon but that was cancelled due to the DFW Icemageddon 2013 and the Bryan-College Station Marathon happened to be taking place on the same day (where it wasn't icy but still 28 degrees cold!) they were super awesome and took in a bunch of displaced Dallas runners, He ran in memory and honor of the City of West and raised over $1,500 to donate to the recovery and rebuilding efforts there.

Oh yeah and expecting baby #2!! That's right- Baby Hare #2 will be arriving in May. We are so excited to grow our little family from 3 to 4. We find out the gender hopefully next week (and more importantly get confirmation that little peanut is growing healthy and strong!) so I'll be sure to update on that!
