Random thoughts

Just thought I'd share a peek into my crazy head. A few things that have crossed my mind over the past few days:

  • The first 2 days of March Madness are the greatest! To me it's what college sports are all about. A chance for the little guy to beat the big guy, where everyone brings their A game and leaves it all out on the court. Not to mention 32 games played over 2 days televised across 4 channels (thank you CBS for ditching the Direct TV deal and opting for one where both cable and satellite people can watch any game no matter where they live). Sadly the play-in games don't count as the first of the tourney to me. I watch them but it doesn't really start for me until you have the insanity of channel flipping, and trying to work/eat during media timeouts, halftimes cause you don't want to miss a second.
  • Making friends as an adult is hard. It was so easy as a kid- probably because kids tend not to need much in common to be friends "You have a bike?? I have a bike too! We'll be best friends forever!" See how easy that was? As an adult you have things like work and different life stages and a lifetime of values and beliefs that seem to make it way harder. Now to find couple friends you have to not only meet someone you like and have things in common with, but you have to hope that your spouse and their spouse like hanging out too. Sadly, the only thing Daniel and I like is watching sports and eating (and board/card games). It's like putting out a wanted ad for boring people ha ha! "If you and your husband are sedentary - we wanna hang out with you!"
  • I'm a little disappointed that instead of humming top 40 songs or songs I've recently listened to on my iPod, I am constantly catching myself humming the stupid tunes from all of Brooklyn's musical toys
  • I have 7 pounds left to get back to my pre-preggo weight. I gained about 35 during the pregnancy and 28 of the pounds gradually fell off without too much effort until about week 5 or 6 where it came to a screeching halt at 7 pounds left and I have been stuck there ever since. So this week I decided that in addition to skipping my daily Oreo snack time, I've been using BK's morning playtime to get in some exercise. While we are kickin' it on her activity mat for her play and tummy time, I work in leg lifts, planks and crunches. :) Maybe next week I'll start adding in arm exercises during one of her naps....
  • It seriously needs to stop raining. It's crazy how the sun will pop out for 20 min and I'll stop what I'm doing, grab the nugget and get in a walk around the block. I need sunshine.
  • I wish Modern Family and New Girl had new episodes on every day! By far the best new shows in a really long time.
  • I'm tired of wearing maternity jeans (my hips are about an inch too wide for my zipper and while I hope they go back so I can wear my jeans/skirts/dress pants again- I'm not wearing these dadgum jeans anymore) so I ordered 10 pair of jeans in different sizes and styles online. It's now easier to have the $8 million come out of my bank account try them all on at home on my own time and return the ones that don't fit than to load up the kid, drive 30 min to town and spend hours trying on jeans cramped in a fitting room with a stroller and having to stop to feed, change diapers etc. Now let's just pray I can find a pair or 2 I like.

I'm not very "pinteresting"

I love pinterest.

I love looking at everyone else's pinterests.

I find that after looking at everyone else's pretty pinterest, my pinterest is no longer pinteresting.

I see pretty things all the time, but I always forget to click that damn "pin it" button on my toolbar.

Then I forget where I saw said pretty things.

Also many of the pretty things I see are people's work like my talented photographer friends, or graphic designer friends or friends who make awesome things for etsy. And while I know that pinterest sources the image I still somehow feel like I'm stealing or infringing on some type of copyright.

I'm also fearful of re-pinning. maybe because I think everything everyone pins is worth re-pinning. Or maybe because I don't want people to think I'm a big fat copycat (which is oddly one of the points of pinterest -to be inspired by cool images and share it with everyone.)

Am I the only person who thinks these things? Is there some unwritten pinterest code? Or am I just a freak of nature?

Don't answer that.

I already know the answer.

Earth to Adrienne

The entire month of May has literally just flashed by.

Work has been nutso - which is good because when I get bored I get in trouble. We're already planning homecoming...in October...bigger and better than last year is my goal. I suggested this year's theme be "Dance in Your Underpants." The committee was underwhelmed.

We had our Athletic auction and raised tens of thousands of dollars for our student athletes who by the way are some seriously awesome kids. Not only do they have class, practice, and games to focus on, most of them are involved in several different clubs and groups on campus, many work jobs on and off campus aaaaand several of our athletes play more than one sport.

I got to go home for a long weekend which you'll hear about one of these days.

We had our President's Club Dinner honoring our President's Club donors who support the university and I am so proud to say that we got to go this year as members of PC! (We can't be asking people to give us money if we don't do it ourselves, right?)

Daniel got to watch our baseball team play in the NCAA Div II Regional in San Diego after clenching their 10th consecutive conference title.

I'm wearing capri pants for the 1st time ever since moving to Oregon. I might even wear a *gasp* dress to work this week. Methinks I'm finally adjusting to the weather. (Well partially, I am still the weirdo who wears a coat on a sunny day in May over my capri pants hehe!)

And, thanks to the OKC Thunder being in the playoffs, have gotten to see my in-laws (courtesy of TNT and ESPN cameras) more this month than we have the whole year! :)

I also ordered "stuff" today to start yet another hair-brained project!

What have you been up to?

Words to live by.....

I'm a random person so I thought I'd share a few random pearls of wisdom for you to ponder the meaning of life with.

  • Karaoke is not near as much fun when you’re sober.
  • When people spray too much air freshener in a bathroom it’s sometimes as nauseating as the smell they were trying to cover up in the first place. A little goes a long way people.
  • Speaking of smells, please don’t douse yourself in lotion/ perfume right before you walk on an airplane- people have nowhere to go to escape it.
  • Always offer the little old ladies your seat, even though it’s quite possible that they are in better shape than you.
  • Please don’t tell people that you have seen a particular movie/ TV show when you haven’t. It only leads to co-workers coming up to you every week with different lines from said movie/show and you are stuck fake laughing and pretending you know what the heck they are talking about for the rest of your life. Or until you quit your job.

Can it be Friday now??

Have you ever had one of those days where you feel like if your brain absorbs 1 more piece of information, if someone adds 1 more thing to your to-do list your head might actually explode?

Today was one of those days.

I’d like to think that I am the type of person whose plate you can put a pretty fair amount of stuff on and I can handle it with out wigging out. I like to be busy. Busy means I gettin’ work done son!

Today was busy on steroids.

Today was out to get me.

Today wanted to take me out to the playground after school and beat the living crap outta me.

It seemed like for every 1 thing I crossed off the to-do list, something came up that had me adding 3 more things to the list. By the end of today I had added way more stuff than I’d crossed off. I felt like I was getting stupider as the day went on because I didn’t know which task to attempt to tackle next.

It was a......“Ok, now I’m gonna e-mail to confirm the menu for the event next week, oh wait I need to finish this e-mail to IT that I’d started before my phone rang and got sidetracked. Speaking of phone call, where’s that invoice I printed from the phone call? Oh crap the phone’s ringing, wait...who’s here to see me???? ” kind of day.

I’ll be having wine with my dinner tonight thankyaverymuch.

That’s all. Just wondering if I was the only one. :)

Thankful for Fridays,
Adrienne

The Penny Jar

I am well aware that I'm almost 30 but I have a confession to make... I still have a penny jar.

The penny jar is a step up from a piggy bank because when you're 30 you should be well past the piggy bank stage. I, my friends, am not past the piggy bank stage so I have a jar. It makes me feel more grown up. Don't tempt me...I'll go buy a piggy bank. It's actually one of the vases we used at our wedding with our monogram on it.

Since we rock the quasi- Dave Ramsey plan, we accumulate more loose change than folks who rely solely on plastic. If you are familiar with the Dave Ramsey plan, you know that each month we withdraw cash and put it in different envelopes. Gas money, grocery money, lunch money and "fun money". So that once that money's gone for the month from each envelope -that's it. It's supposed to make you think about what you are buying. (Sometimes when the cash runs out I whip out the debit card- that's why we call it the "quasi-Dave Ramsey plan." That's also why we are doing the saving challenge!)

At the end of each week I dig in the bottom of my purse and gather up all the change. Because that's where change goes, people. I have time to put bills in my wallet but nickels, quarters pshhh.... just toss 'em in the handbag! I get way more excited than a normal person should about digging for loose change in their purse. I try to guess how much I'll have, I count it (it's usually less than my guess. What can I say- I dream big?) and toss it into the penny jar.

I frequently ask my husband how much he thinks is in there, and he kindly obliges and usually guesses a number higher than could possibly be in the jar and always asks me what I'm going to do with all our my change. I usually answer in an English accent with "I'm going to buy diiiiiiiiamonds!" and we have a good laugh.

I have no clue (other than mental illness) why I geek out over change. I guess I just enjoy knowing that one day the jar will be full and we can use it for anything we want. It's not part of our designated savings or going to be used for bills or groceries... we can buy 10 gallons of ice cream, or spend it on tokens at Chuck-E-Cheese and play skee-ball all day, or go bonkers on iTunes! So until I cash that sucker in and see how much is actually in there, it sure is fun to imagine what we could get!

**I've even been known to clean out Daniel's change holder in his car....much to his dismay (apparently he uses that change for vending machine money! haha! oops!) **

Love,
The Crazy Change Lady

Vaguebooking

I'm on a one woman quest to stop "vaguebooking".
It drives me insane.

I've watched it on my friggin' newsfeed for what seems like eternity and I...have... had it! The entire point of Facebook is so that we can all satisfy our narcissistic craving for attention. Right?!?!? Well, that, and let's all admit everyone enjoys a little legal cyber-stalking.

Facebook was invented so that you can share what you are up to with your friends and vice versa. In theory, if all of your "friends" are actually your friends- then you should be able to post whatever you'd like, right?!?! No need for ambiguity and anonymity- just tell us like it is. .......So why are we vaguebooking, people??!?!

For those of you who don't know, "Vaguebooking" is when you post vague/ mysterious/ enigmatic status updates. Here are a few examples:

"OMG."  :: That's it??? OMG what?? because"OMG I'm engaged" and "OMG they brought me ham instead of turkey" are on 2 completely different levels.

"Can't wait til fill in the day/date" ::  Is that when you leave on some fabulous vacay or are you taking your dog to the groomer?  You gotta finish the sentence!

"Some people are so rude" ::  Which people?!? What did they do? We know there are rude people in the world and you need to identify them for us! Because right now. in my book, that "some people" would be you, for leaving me hanging :)
**ones like this make me especially nuts-o because when I see it, I, being the everyone-please-like-me person that I am, automatically look at my last status to see if it could have offended said Vaguebooker. ....nope. Don't think "Can't wait to watch Modern Family tonight" qualifies as offensive.**

"(insert emoticon here)" :: Do I even need to explain this one?? You do know that by just posting a sad face someone (who is nicer than me) will inevitably post something along the lines of "aww, what happened?" or "I hope you're OK."  and you'll have to post an explanation anyway. I boycott those updates and refuse to ask (even though inside I'm just dyyyyying to know) out of sheer protest of your sucky emoticon-only post. Oh, and if you post only a smiley face I'm assuming you're pregnant. Even if you're a boy.

I could list for days. Obviously by posting your mysterious status, you want people to know that you are mad/ happy/ sad/ whatever... so either post the whole dadgum thing or don't post at all. There I said it.  I know... I'm a terrible person, but I'm surely not the only one...or am I???

Here are those same posts with some improvement...........

"OMG! My arm just fell off!"

"Can't wait til Saturday!! We're getting a dog"

"Some people are so rude - jerk just peed in my ice cream"

":) I love hot chocolate!"

See, It's not so difficult.

I'm beginning my quest to stop this heinous injustice to us nosey facebookers around the globe - right here on my little blog. I don't quite know what I'll do yet.

I'm thinking something along the lines of when I see a vaguebooking violation, driving to their place of residence, confiscating their weapons (in this case computers, iPads, smartphones), removing all wine, chocolate, and baked goods (consider it a payment for my service), and forcing them to watch hours of Jersey Shore footage (that's the punishment portion).

Or I can resort to what I normally do....blog about it, then do nothing. Any and all suggestions are most welcome.

Lets start a revolution.

Day 28: Something that stresses you out

Everything.

I am a worry-wort. I find it humorous that events stress me out and 50% of my job is event planning. HA! I actually only stress out the day before and day of but it's good stress- I think it's what makes me good at my job.

Being on an airplane for more than four hours. Cause usually after 4 hours I have to pee, and I hate airplane bathrooms.

Scary movies. I'm a chicken and if I see a scary movie, I can't do anything alone for like a week. Nothing. Ask my spouse. If you see a scary movie with me- my husband will send me to your house for 7 loooong days of me following you around like a puppy cause I can't be alone.

Driving in big city traffic at night, in the rain. And not like Oregon drizzle rain- I mean Oklahoma sideways, waterfall sheets of rain. Freaks my freak. I'm sure I look like a weirdo hunched up as close to the windshield as possible (as if that'll help me see better), hands at 10 and 2, white knuckled, squeezing the bazoonga out of the steering wheel.

And lastly - for the 2,337,897th time.....hospitals, and all that hospitals entail.

Day 1

Day 1 - Introduction, recent pic & 15 interesting facts

I feel like I'm at a group therapy session...."Hi. My name is Adrienne. I blog about anything and everything because I have issues focusing, one day my kids that I don't yet have will discover this blog and be completely and utterly embarrassed and that will make all this blogging worth it."

Here's the "recentest" pic- I'm always the picture taker not the" takee"! (yes I just invented two new words) This one's from football season- one of our coaches and his wife just had the adorable little girl I'm holding. The back of that onesie has a tutu sewn on- beyond cute.  Demi looks like she's about to fall asleep. :)

15 Facts
(whether they are interesting or not is your call)

1.) I hate having my picture taken (unless its by a pro who will take 1,000 pics, so there will be at least 1 good one, and then photoshop the weird out of me). I always have a crazy eye or bad hair or food in my teeth. Basically, I don't like it because I'm not photogenic.

2.) I always have to know where the bathroom is. Knowing I'm somewhere where there isn't a bathroom makes me have to go to the bathroom. TMI. I know. But it's a fact.

3.) When I was in the 5th grade I was the lead role in a play at church. I thought I was a star...after all, I was an amazing singer and crazy talented actress. Then a few years ago I saw the tape (well it'd been burned to a DVD) and I finally understood how all those awful singers who are mercilessly mocked by Simon on American Idol feel. Turns out ...I was awful. It was painful to watch. At least I didn't have to find out on American Idol.

4.) I enjoy making meetings un-serious. I hate meetings where everyone's super serious, I can't handle intense. It doesn't mean I get people off task or anything...I enjoy efficiency as much as the next guy- just not serious frowney face efficiency.

5.) I give my husband a new nickname every few months or so. They have no special meaning, and the new nickname is usually a modified version of the one before.

6.) I go through food phases with meat. There are times where I won't eat beef for months. Just can't eat it. No reason.... just not feelin' it.

7.) I get scared watching Scooby-Doo cartoons.

8.) You can't leave me alone with a container of Oreos. I will eat them all. I lose all self control around those delicious cookies.

9.) I have reeeeeally good hearing. Like supersonic hearing. Which comes in handy because I'm also nosey.

10.) I might possibly be the only woman on the planet who hasn't read the twilight series. And I'm OK with that. I think it's the vampire-thing. (see #8)

11.) I work out to the most offensive gangster rap music on the planet. I once tried listening to my workout list in the car....I offended myself. I guess I really just need the beat to run to. So if I ever throw a party that you're at and I tell you to put on some music please don't choose "A's workout jams" on my iPod. K?? Thanks.

12.) I wake up everyday with a song in my head which usually becomes the shower song of the day.

13.) When I was in 5th grade I thought my forearms were hairy so I shaved them. It never really grew back.

14.) I could watch cheesy romantic comedies all day every day until I die. And to my romantic comedy warriors who will never win an Oscar for making those movies I say "You go Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, J-Lo & Sandra Bullock!!" (Although a few of those ladies have successfully tackled the serious role and taken home an Oscar.)

15.) I eat candy that comes in assorted flavors from "worst to first." So when I get Starburst I eat yellow, orange, red then pink.

Wow, how am I not in a mental institution??

See you tomorrow for Day 2
