{DIY}: Bow holder & bows

So after the wreath project was over, I decided to venture on to a more labor intensive project which has now spawned a mini addiction. Like many little girls Brooklyn has lots of headbands and bows and I wanted to get a hair bow holder for her to put them on. As usual, I had a picture in my head of what I wanted and didn't see it on Etsy or Pinterest so I decided to take a stab at making it myself.

I ordered an unpainted 4 peg coat rack (to hang the headbands on) and wooden plaque (for the bows) from hobbylobby.com and painted them in colors to match B's nursery. Once the painting was done I attached her initial to the plaque and matching ribbons to the bottom of the plaque and hung them in B's room.

Which then led me to making her little bow clips. Like 24 of them. I just started and couldn't stop. I had to try different colors, different kinds of bows, I went nuts. I found that adding the no slip grip helps them stay in B's hair and I'm glad I finally have colors other than pink. She has some cute blue rompers and even though they have ruffles on them people see blue and still ask if she's a boy so having some blue clips/bows should make it easier for folks.

I still have some work to do on some of them but wanted you to see the madness for yourself :)

For the bow holder I'd say it probably ended up costing about the same to make as it did to buy (one of the cheaper ones on Etsy) only because I bought 5 yard spools of ribbon as opposed to just buying just what I needed. I had a blast making it and this kiddo is going to have a bow for every outfit ha ha! I have tons of ribbon to make bows so if you are having a girl or have a girl and want some bows or clips call me. :)

Help me!!

So I'm looking for a jewelry tree.

Somewhere in my transition from college to the working world I have shifted from trendy clothes to the classics. And to anyone under 23 that probably reads "After I got outta college I started dressing boring." Not true, sayeth the old lady. I have just realized that I'd rather not spend all my money buying every new trend I see that I'll only be able to wear for a few months.

I spend the bulk of my "clothes budget" (yes I have a clothes budget and it's  tiny) on the good stuff! Classic handbags, nicer shoes and boots, great fitting jeans and sweaters. All of which most people would consider plain. I consider it a canvas for my accessories! Since a good hunk o' the CB goes to these staple items I don't usually have a ton of cash left for the accessories. 

I've found it's much cheaper when my trendy items are accessories, because unlike sweaters and dress pants, cheaper accessories don't get the wear and tear and tend to hold up longer than sweaters and pants that are being washed and worn constantly.     

I'm particularly a fan of scarves and jewelry! You can find some super cute scarves for $15 or less at stores like old navy, Target, and even handmade ones on Etsy! For Jewelry I hound sites like RueLaLa and Gilt. I bought these $60 pair of earrings for $23 a month or so ago on Gilt!

And it doesn't help that 2 of my co-workers who office right upstairs from my office make jewelry as well!

Which brings me to my dilemma. I have a rack for all my scarves but my jewelry box is full and a mess to say the least. I'm looking for a jewelry tree (or trees - yikes!) or stand or something to help keep my jewelry organized and displayed in a fun and fashionable way!Maybe an earring tree and a necklace tree ;)

What do you use to store/display your jewelry? Do you like it? Is it purdy??? Let me know I need help!

Day 22

Day 22-What's in your makeup bag

Everything known to man! Just kidding! I actually wear the same makeup every day and don't really wear a ton. I'd say it takes 5-10 min max to "put my face on". It gets dark early so forgive the not so great photos...

Buxom lip gloss by Bare Escentuals 

I'm a fan of the Maybeline quad eye shadows (can you tell)! I have the light brown quad for everyday, the dark brown and purple for "date nights" :) Best part is they're like 3 bucks!

My skin is prone to breakouts (prone- ha it's a guarantee!) so I use bareMinerals foundation most days. The Rimmel blush I actually got in Atlanta when Delta so kindly lost my luggage on the way to a work conference back in November. I bought it because I needed blush and it was cheap - but I love the shade and have been using it since.

For extra coverage days- Clinique perfectly real foundation is my go to. Provides more coverage than the mineral foundation but is still light.

Another emergency cheap-o Target purchase that I love! Cheap doesn't clump and actually kinda curls the lashes- sweet!

My mom is an Avon rep and this has always been my favorite eyeliner! Never need to sharpen and glides right on! Avon gilmmersticks eyeliner in cosmic brown.

This technically isn't in my makeup bag...but it is my life saver and splurge so I'm sharing! I have crazy skin. When people ask the if you could change one thing about the way you look question my answer is always my FACE! I'm almost 30 and am still breaking out regularly. And my face is spastic. One day I'm oily and the next crazy dry- oh and the uneven skin tone. This hasn't cured me completely, but it has improved my skin waaay better than any of the other crap I've tried (proactiv, scrubs, masks, microdermabrasion). It's the Alpha Beta peel (extra strength version) by Dr. Dennis Gross. I use it 3 times a week and just love it!!!

I have been robbed. My best umbrella was stolen.

Ok, so I left it in the gym at a basketball game. What the student who scored my umbrella doesn't realize is that I work on campus and I'm almost 100% positive no one in the state of Oregon has one like it. It's a Gap umbrella and it's pink with dark pink huge flowers on it! I love it not because it's fun and cheery but it's a solid umbrella! Sturdy and compact, it could survive a hurricane. I miss it so. I will find you pink umbrella.
